The Code of Conduct Bureau has begun massive verification of assets declared by top serving and former public officers at the federal, state and local government levels. A statement by the Chairman of the CCB, Mr. Sam Saba, released by the Press and Protocol Unit of the Bureau on Thursday, stated that the exercise involved the physical appearance of the concerned public officers before the bureau for conference and field verifications of their declared assets. Conference verification requires public officers to present documents relating to their declared assets to designated officials of the Bureau.

It was learned that a group of heavily armed kidnappers yesterday abducted Margaret Emefiele, the wife of Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele. A source close to Mr. Emefiele said that Mrs. Emefiele was kidnapped along the Benin-Agbor Road. Sources disclosed that the kidnappers have made contact with their victim’s husband, adding that they were demanding a huge sum in ransom. Mrs. Emefiele’s kidnap represents one of the most high-profile kidnap cases in 2016.

I have just read the wide media coverage regarding the recommendations of the National Economic Council (NEC) as well as the Senate on the ways to reboot the economy out of the current recession. Times such as this require all brains at work and all hands on deck. Consequently, I commend both institutions for their patriotic duty in advising the President. Surely, the proposals are still mere advice or recommendations, and not approval as wrongly reported by some media.
